Sage Ribbon Designs
About
Taanishi, I am Marilyn Black, a registered citizen of Métis Nation-Saskatchewan with family roots in Cumberland House, SK. I am also owner of Sage Ribbon Designs; a small, Indigenous-owned business located in Treaty 5 and Homeland of the Métis.
I make all my items myself and I try to have a variety at different price points.
I also facilitate Ribbon Skirt/Ribbon Shirt Workshops. Info blurb: Join us for a two-day ribbon skirt workshop where you’ll create your own skirt from start to finish—no sewing experience needed. All materials are provided, and you’ll be guided through each step in a warm and welcoming space.
Throughout the workshop, we will take part in a smudge ceremony, the sharing of stories, and learning about the traditional and contemporary significance of ribbon skirts—symbols of strength, identity, and our deep connection to Mother Earth.
Participants may also choose to create a ribbon shirt, offering an inclusive option for people of all genders to engage in this meaningful cultural experience.
As Indigenous peoples, we are resilient—we are here because of the love, strength, and sacrifices of our ancestors. When we wear our ribbon skirts or ribbon shirts, we do so to acknowledge and honour them, and to carry their teachings forward. We create and wear these pieces with pride, knowing we are helping make a better place for our future generations.
This workshop is open to all, offering a powerful way to reconnect with culture, community, identity, and the land. You’ll leave with a beautiful ribbon skirt or ribbon shirt you created yourself—something meaningful to wear or gift with love.
